3scale is all about helping you manage your APIs securely and flexibly. For those of you who have multiple APIs managed by different teams, we have good news. Keep reading to learn more about the new rights by service feature (available on Enterprise-level accounts only).
Assign permissions to members by service
Up until now you could give members access to specific features within the 3scale Admin Portal. For instance, you could assign access to billing and invoicing (and nothing else) to a member of your finance department. Now, you can also assign access rights to members for one or more specific services, allowing different teams to have completely independent access to different APIs.
Individually subscribe to notifications
Service-based segmentation is also important when it comes to notification settings. As a provider on 3scale, you can get notifications about almost everything that happens in your instance: a new account, a customer who downgrades, a new application, a cancellation, etc. That can add up to lots of notifications.
In order to keep your inbox clean, you can now decide for which services each member will get notifications, plus everyone can subscribe (or not) to those messages individually.
In addition to that, we introduced the ability for admins to provision access to those notifications by feature as well. So a member who doesn’t have access to billing, he or she won’t have access to billing notifications either.
We’ve introduced a new type of API key. While provider keys will still be valid for a while, services are now using individual service keys, making it easier for teams, partners, and other groups to independently configure and deploy different API services.
What about analytics, application plans, methods, and metrics?
All those features were already organized by service in the UI, and will continue to be delivered in the same way. The main difference is that, as a member, you will only see the analytics, application plans, and related information for the services you’re working with (and have access to).
We’re very thankful to all of the customers who participated in the beta program and gave us feedback that helped us deliver this new feature. We have a few ideas of things we’d like to achieve in this area, but we also want to keep listening to what you have to say in order to determine what we’ll be next. So don’t be shy, leave a comment, send us an email, a message in a bottle… let us know what you’ll like to see here.
